This is a screenshot of a Gr11 Process Portfolio slide by Miral Kabir- it is a good example of developing an idea from a starting stimulus- in this case the paintings of Caravaggio. It also illustrates how the work we have done this year and will do next year are excellent preparation for IB Visual Art.
End of Grade 9/MYP 4 Visual Art
Now that we have completed your trial e-portfolio unit you should have some idea of what to expect next year in Grade 10. For the MYP certificate you will have to submit one of the e-portfolios you undertake ( we have them in the Arts, and Design). You will need to make that decision BEFORE you have done the project. So have a think about that. Which subject that offers e-portfolio at ABA is your best chance of getting high grades?
You will still actually DO all the e-portfolios in the subjects that offer them, but some will be internally assessed and one will count towards your MYP certificate.
NEXT TASKS
You will be continuing to use your website as an online art journal next year. Is there anything you can do to improve how it currently is? Are there ant typos or spelling errors? Could any images be re-taken so they are clearer? Have you always included cited sources when you have used images or text by other people. If you think there is any part of your website that needs some attention do this first so that you finish grade 9 confident that it is the best document possible of your process and progress.
Personal Challenge
We now have 5 double lessons until the end of the school year. The next work you do will not require any more written research or reflection......... start with one of the techniques, media, ideas we have covered this year and your task is to produce work that shows a development of skills with that. The aim is to stretch yourself in some way, to take on something that you think takes you out of your comfort zone and challenges you.
I will show you an example from some of the students who are already doing this. I
n the time available you will be able to experiment, make a plan for an artwork and complete the artwork before the end of the year ( so you will need to consider scale and form...). You will post images of the development work and final piece on your website.
This task allows you more artistic freedom than in our previous units. You can decide on what you want to use as subject matter.

- There are some parameters: do not produce only copies of other artists work. Document your process to show some development of an idea before beginning a 'final piece'.
- Next year our units ask you to be more interpretative and individual in your response to stimuli and themes. This mini-unit will give you a taste of what it is like.
- If you are 'stuck' keep it simple and make observation work (which can relate to our landscape unit or the portrait unit).
