Grade 9 Landscape UNIT trip Sifah design brief prep December 2018
Visual Art Trip to Jebel Sifah December 3rd2018
We are very fortunate to have been offered an opportunity to work with a ‘real world’ client in the form of Muriya, the company that is developing Jebel Sifah.
They have some interesting design briefs for our Grade 9 artists to tackle. Before we begin this process we are running a unit about Landscape. This will provide us with the ‘fuel’ to be able to address the design briefs.
As a start to this unit we were invited to Jebel Sifah to collect visual source material. We took 52 Grade 9 artists, all armed with cameras and a sheet of tasks to help students capture their experience of the site. The goal of the unit will be to produce art works that evoke a ‘sense of place’.
Our Grade 9 students were excellent ambassadors for ABA and our community and we are excited by the possibility of continuing to work with our ‘real world’ client in the new year.

Through out the year art students are offered a range of extra-curricular opportunities. Here are is a record of projects, trips and opportunities that visual art students experience at ABA.
Grade 10 Exhibition - April 16th
The MYP 5 artists put on a super show of their work. This well attended event was a celebration of their considerable achievement throughout the year.
Exam IBDP Visual Art Exhibition
The Grade 12 art students made an excellent show of their art work from the last two years. There was some inventive choices of location for works and the school buildings had digital projections on them and the drama court was the site for a light installation.
Grade 10 MYP 5 ' Awareness' unit
One of our grade 10 students used the shocking amount of trash pulled off the beach by the ABA Eco Soc during a beach clear up to create a turtle. The aim was to raise awareness of the damage to our marine environment and in particular the turtle population in Oman caused by plastic in our oceans. At the international Cultural event organised by our fabulous PTA the grade 10 students asked our school community to help make an art installation about this important issue. Ad parents and fellow students helped make jellyfish from plastic bags they were made aware of our individual responsibility to be thoughtful consumers and re-use bags whenever possible.
Grade 9 MYP4 Trip to Al Bustan village beach
To gather more source material for their landscape unit the Grade 9 class visited the lovely little beach at Al Bustan village. We had practiced making photographs around school and in the wadi adjacent to the campus and consequently the students were able to collect some amazing source images to work from.
Senior Fine Arts MESAC Doha 2017Five of our artists from grade 9.10 and 12 participated in the MESAC event. They were given the theme of 'Passages' and a box that had three layers of clear acrylic sheet. Their responses were inventive and look fabulous! Click on any image to see the slideshow.
Gr11 IB1 Artist Workshops - Grade 11 Visual Art students had the pleasure of working with local artist and parent of the ABA community Debjani Bhardwaj for a course of four workshops. The students learnt about the artist’s unique working style and how her culture, stories of mythology and life experience has inspired her creative journey. The Art students learnt how to begin to plan a visual narrative for a composition which then lead into a carefully crafted papercut picture, with intricate detail and almost lace quality. Colour was then added to create depth and to bring each individual visual story to life. |
